Gyetvay Park Nature Refuge was cherished and nurtured by its former owner Desley Gyetvay who preferred to sell her property to the Trust instead of developers. Desley's dream of preservation became a reality when the Trust placed a conservation agreement over the property to preserve its significant natural and cultural values for future generations.
After the sale of the property to the Trust, Desley moved to north Queensland to be closer to family. She still maintained her strong interest in the care of sick and injured native wildlife and their subsequent rehabilitation until her passing.
